Applied Kinesiology (not to be confused with kinesiology), a system of neurological evaluation using muscle testing, gives the
Chiropractor a more comprehensive picture of the patient’s problem.
In the 1965, Dr. George Goodheart of Detroit, Michigan, developed a
new system of evaluation and treatment in the field of
chiropractic.
He found that evaluation of normal and abnormal body function could be accomplished by using
muscle tests. There are two basic
concepts behind AK. :
Muscles of the body are controlled by the nervous system. The nervous system is aware of various sensory input. It’s aware of
both it’s internal and external environment.
The nervous system is constantly monitoring these two environments, what’s happening around it and what’s happening within it.
Combining these two concept, we found that the nervous system will
react to these
changes in the environment and display this
reaction by way of
changes in the strengthening or weakening of the muscles.
The whole science of AK is trying to figure out how the muscles change in reaction to different kinds of stimuli and how to
interpret what these changes mean. This complex chiropractic approach to the body’s health, gives us a multifaceted method of looking at all sorts of things that effect the body that we couldn’t really look at before.
